Glenmorangie 10 is one of the most popular and widely available malts and has been the starting point of many a whisky geek’s journey. The base malt is very light and quite sweet, attributed to the distillery’s unusually tall stills. The 10 year old is aged only in ex-bourbon barrels, maintaining the light, sweet character.

Aged 10 years. 40%ABV.

Nose: Floral. Citrus, like the spray when you split the peel. Caramel pudding. Wet grass on a summer day. Stewed pears. A hint of wood. Marzipan.

Palate: Spirit hotness. Citrus rind. Spices, cinnamon and nutmeg. Fennel. Light Wood. Pears. Vanilla.

Finish: Short, but there’s a nice crisp woody finish, finally the wood really showing itself. Also some more stewed fruit notes, with custard.

Would I buy this: Yes

Would I order this in a bar: Yes

Would I drink this if someone gave me a glass: Yes

VFM: 4/5

This is a consistently good malt. It can taste a tad young, but has a good level of complexity, is widely available and usually very affordable.
