This is one of three of Glenmorangie’s 12 year old finished core range. These all start off as the regular 10 year old, aged only in bourbon casks, but then each one undergoes a finish in some special casks. These ones were finished in ex-Oloroso and PX casks.

Aged 12 years. 46%ABV. Finished in ex-Oloroso and PX casks. Non-chill filtered.

Nose: Honey. Sticky sherry. Black pepper. Matches. Rich cereal. Floral notes. Strawberries & Cream flavor oat-so-easy. Grit. Sticky oak. Bit of spirit bite (just a tad). Plum pudding. Nectarines. Chocolate covered raisins.

Palate: Sherried wood front and center. Sticky cherries. Matches. Raisins left in a plastic bag in the sun. Honey. Hint of citrus, maybe ruby grapefruit.

Finish: Medium. Red fruits. Dry sherry. Sweet fruits. Dry wood.

Would I buy this: No

Would I order this in a bar: No

Would I drink this if someone gave me a glass: Yes

VFM: 3/5

I’m not a fan of the sweet fruity sherry, which is accentuated here by the sweet character of the malt, but this is a nicely put together dram. If you like the sherried ones give it a try.
