This is a rum distilled at Travelers distillery in Belize and bottled by a French independent bottler of rums. I was not aware of Travelers before trying some at a recent rum club meetup where we sampled quite a few offerings from Compagnie Des Indes including a sister cask to this one bottled at cask strength which I really liked. So in adding some rums to my collection I decided to try this one which is the lower strength version.
Aged 11 years. 43%ABV. No colourant added, non-chill filtered and bottled from cask BL25.
Nose: Very whisky-like at first. Light wood. Pencil shavings. Vanilla. Orange peel. Dark chocolate. Wine gums. Slight petroleum note. With some glass time the woody notes fade a little and some juicy fruit notes become more prominent. Kiwi, limes and salty toffee.
Palate: Orange syrup. Kumquat. Woodspice. Sultanas. Light espresso. Licorice. Wintergreen.
Finish: Medium-long. Quite dry. After Eight peppermint thins. Spearmint. Woodspice. Marmalade.
Would I buy this: Yes
Would I order this in a bar: Yes
Would I drink this if someone gave me a glass: Yes
This was a really lovely rum with some great light wood notes which probably come from a good quality cask and a really interesting dry citrus character to it. Complex and still easy to drink. I’ve been sipping at this one quite a bit over the Summer as it’s really perfect for the hot weather.
