Springbank 12 Fresh Port Hogshead

Thanks to /u/buddy_dosser for the sample via /r/ScotchSwap on reddit.

I’m always happy to get my grubby paws on a Springbank Society bottling. Particularly this one because it’s been matured in a port cask, a fresh one no less, and I’m a sucker for that peat/port combination, and because port matured Springbanks are not something I come across often. Let’s see what this does.

Springbank 11 Local Barley

Springbank kicked up a real fuss last year when they released a 16 year old Local Barley bottling. It was essentially reviving an older series of there’s where they made whisky using barley grown on the farms surrounding Campbeltown. The plan now is to release a bottling every year for 5 years each using a different variety of barley.

Springbank 12 Burgundy

Cracked this one open to kick off the weekend. I do love my Springbank, but their special releases have unfortunately become a bit of a hot commodity with those collector types, you know, the ones who will buy 2 crates of everything you can slap “Limited Release” or “Special Edition” onto and never open it because they buy whisky to *spit on floor* invest.

Campbeltown Sans Springbank Night with Malt Mongers Israel

Once again our whisky club, Malt Mongers Israel, met up at the Milk & Honey distillery for our monthly get together. This month’s theme was Campbeltown without Springbank. We’d recent had a dedicated Springbank evening and decided to try some of the other whiskies coming from the region (granted only one bottle was actually not from a Springbank associated distillery).

Springbank 2007 Society Bottling

Thanks to /u/buddy_dosser for the sample via /r/ScotchSwap on reddit.

This is from a bottling Springbank did this year for their Springbank Society. The casks they bottle for the Society are usually of the highest quality and are often quite unique too. Unfortunately one needs to be in the UK to get them at a reasonable price so I can’t often get hold of them, so I’m hugely appreciative to have gotten this sample.

Longrow 2001 Springbank Society Bottling

Thanks to /u/buddy_dosser via /r/Scotchswap on reddit for the sample.

I’m sure those of you who follow what I write here are quite familiar by now with the fact that I have quite an affinity for both peat and whiskies from Springbank distillery. No surprise then that I go absolutely nuts for Longrow, Springbank’s heavily peated label.

Malt Mongers Israel Springbank Evening

The 100 Proof, there was a lot going on so this was the only picture I got from the night.

This month our whisky club met up at the awesome Whiskey Bar & Museum in Tel Aviv. This month our theme was Springbank. The disitllery has a lot of fans in the club and rightly so, they make consistently good whiskies, and are always playing around with cask types and barley sources, leading to some very interesting expressions.
