Old Pulteney 2006 Hand-bottled – BTC 2017 #15


Old Pulteney would not be something I’d expect in a blind tasting competition, most malt-heads are very familiar with the distillery bottlings (the ones worth drinking anyway) and independent bottlings are few and far between, so this was a complete surprise. Another bottle only available at the distillery, not only younger than all of their age stated expressions, but at cask strength too. I went with a young independent Clynelish bottling as it had some of the lighter notes one finds in Clynelish and I could tell this was very active stuff.

Old Pulteney 11 Cadenhead’s Authentic Collection


I’m always on the lookout for independent bottlings of Old Pulteney. I really like the (now discontinued) 17 & 21 year old distillery bottlings, but IB’s are few and far between and it’s always fun to get a feel for the same spirit done differently. This one is from Cadenhead’s Authentic collection, it says it was matured in a bourbon hogshead, judging by the colour we’re talking about a refill cask so should be pretty raw spirit here.

Old Pulteney 15 G&M Distillery Labels


Old Pulteney is a great distillery. Their range (aside from a myriad of NAS travel retail exclusives that I’m not familiar with) is great quality across the board, but one thing that can be very hard to come by is an independent bottling. So when I had an order to fill and saw this on offer I figured I’d take a gamble.
