Golan Heights Distillery Brewer’s Whisky – BBX Amber Ale

This is the 2nd release of Golan Heights Distillery’s distilled beer (or beerskys). The previous one was distilled from a chickpea beer. This one is distilled from a more traditional amber ale style craft beer from the Golan Brewery, located in the same town as the distillery. I really loved the previous release and when I tried this one at Whisky Live Tel Aviv last week it was just as good, if not better (but this is entering the realm of personal taste). Like the last one this was matured in an ex-Golani Black (the distillery’s two-grain whisky matured in charred virgin oak) casks for 2 years and bottled at 50%.

“Spicy Hummus” Brewer’s Whisky

David Zibell over at the Golan Heights Distillery here in Israel has been quite busy with all kinds of interesting things, notably a 2nd Single Malt release, a brandy and this little gem. I was a little apprehensive at first, but heard from a few people that it’s extremely interesting.

Santis Peated Cask Strength Whisky

This is a bit of an odd one. It’s a whisky from Switzerland that has been peated and aged in beer casks. This is made by the Locher Brewery, which explains their choice of casks. Quite a few breweries have been making the move into distilling in the last decade or so and I saw quite a bit of this when I was in Germany this past September (because you can’t spit in Germany without hitting a brewery so it was kind of hard to miss).
